Social media can make recruiting much easier and more effective by enabling you to target you next employee, communicate you opportunity more extensively, and promote the culture and achievements of your biomedical organization openly.

Hiring people can be an overwhelming and costly process for your biomedical group. Thankfully, social media is helping to facilitate this process. We came across an article by Saijad Masud, co-founder and CEO of Simplicant, who wrote a survival guide for social media recruitment. Here’s our summary plus more specific thoughts on how your biomedical group can utilize the power Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for recruitment.

Twitter
The amount of tweets per day is astonishing – over 175 million. How can you use the amount of traffic to your advantage? Twitter can make the hiring process easier for you by quickly and effectively targeting specific audiences. When tweeting a job opening make sure you’re reaching out to these specific targets. Spend some time thinking about the specific keywords and hashtags that your ideal employee would be searching for and use those in your tweets. You’ll also want to consider the best time of day to reach your audience when it comes to Twitter.

Facebook
There is no doubt that Facebook is where many people spend a fair amount of time. Your biomedical group hopefully has an active Facebook page and with any luck prospective employees may already be connected to you and aware of the great work you are doing. In addition to your history, latest research findings, etc, here you have the opportunity to offer a glimpse into the culture of your biomedical group more regularly and prominently than on your corporate website. By using Facebook tabs, you’ll help visitors find important information in a more personal way than your website. As example, by having a Career Tab you encourage fans to check job openings with a simple click and without leaving their favorite social network.

LinkedIn
As the world’s largest professional network, LinkedIn is growing strong. Here, you can find an endless number of people that are as enthusiastic about your industry as you are by taking advantage of LinkedIn groups. Here, you can engage specific audiences and candidates through group discussions. Also by sharing your biomedical group’s current openings with your connections they will likely filter to their contacts creating a viral effect and giving you valuable exposure to a wide range of potential qualified employees.

Even if You Aren’t Actively Recruiting….
Remember, social media allows you to build a story over time. As you engage in conversations be mindful that every time you post you are communicating your company’s personality as an employer. And even if you aren’t recruiting heavily at the moment, continue to start and participate in discussions about specific issues in the biomedical industry. You’ll make it easier to identify and connect with those who could be a perfect fit when you are actively recruiting.
